Hello,

This is my first time using the QTERM and we are using a G70 ETFT.

My question is why must the device be powered from a SELV power source? We have a 24VDC Allen-Bradley power supply in our enclosure. Could we not just connect pin 9 of the RS232 (EIA232) connector to this power supply and put a 5A fuse on the Power Supply output?

The negative side (0VDC) of the power supply is set to the same ground as our PLC (programmable logic controller) so the ground being passed through our comm port to pin 5 of the RS232 port on the G70 would be common.

Would this not work?

The short answer is yes, you should be able to connect the 24VDC source from your Allen-Bradley to your QTERM-G70 and it will work. I believe that the caution the the manual for the QTERM-G70 is just a caution, the QTERM-G70 will operate with just about any DC power source that is from 8 to 26 volts.
