Are there any plans to upgrade the software for QSI G-55/58 terminals to support the full 24-bit color depth of their screens?

There are definitely discussions to upgrade the color depth on certain Qlarity models. Exactly the time frame we are looking at, and whether we would go to a full 24 bit (16 or 18 bit would be somewhat more likely) are still up in the air though.

Any update on this? I have been importing some images and the colors are sometimes way off. Is there anywhere where I can read about doing custom color palettes?

Not much to update on. It is definitely something that we would like to get into Qlarity, although exactly how has not been decided. It is pretty much the #1 feature that everyone agrees on needs to be added to Qlarity. Unfortunately it means reworking the entire graphics system and leaves in limbo the status of old 8-bit style images in existing workspaces.

I can get you some more info on custom palettes though. The general idea is to call SetPalette (SetPalette is now fully simulated in Qlarity Foundry 2.60). And you can look up the docs on that.

I have some utilities I use -- and can provide -- to convert .bmp and .png files into palettized Qlarity images (the general intent of these is that they are full screen backdrops, possibly with text or other overlays, such as highlighting or depressing a custom button.

Perhaps if I knew more about what you are trying to accomplish, I can offer better advice on how to approach a palettized solution.

Couldn't systems designed around 8-bit bitmaps use older firmware and foundry versions? And if required, have 8-bit bitmaps converted to the newer bit-depth in new versions of the firmware?

I will look into Setpallette, thanks!
