Not much to update on. It is definitely something that we would like to get into Qlarity, although exactly how has not been decided. It is pretty much the #1 feature that everyone agrees on needs to be added to Qlarity. Unfortunately it means reworking the entire graphics system and leaves in limbo the status of old 8-bit style images in existing workspaces.
I can get you some more info on custom palettes though. The general idea is to call SetPalette (SetPalette is now fully simulated in Qlarity Foundry 2.60). And you can look up the docs on that.
I have some utilities I use -- and can provide -- to convert .bmp and .png files into palettized Qlarity images (the general intent of these is that they are full screen backdrops, possibly with text or other overlays, such as highlighting or depressing a custom button.
Perhaps if I knew more about what you are trying to accomplish, I can offer better advice on how to approach a palettized solution.
