What is the difference between these two products?

TREQ-L version 2 has minor hardware changes from TREQ-L with same performance. It will replace TREQ-L on QSI production line in early 2009. All existing application software for TREQ-L would work flawlessly on version 2. But current TREQ-L OS would not work well on TREQ-L version 2. Some device drivers would fail. QSI will release new OS and updates in future to work on both TREQ-L and TREQ-L version 2.

Will the new OS be released with the TREQ-L version 2? We use the XTERASYS USB-connected wifi device. Drivers for that device were recently added (to V1.10) and we could not use any TREQ-L version 2 without support for that XTERASYS device.

The latest TREQ-L and TREQ-L version 2 OS images both support the Xterasys WiFi device.

Now that the XN3135G has been withdrawn, what USB WIFI device will QSI support for the future?

The TREQ-M4 and TREQ-L devices now support two new Xterasys Wifi modules.
1) 802.11n USB w/ External Antenna, WU5214:
http://www.xterasys.com/product_detail.php?i_id=10
2) 802.11n Mini USB, WU5205:
http://www.xterasys.com/product_detail.php?i_id=13

However, they require custom driver packages to be installed. They are found here (the filename mentions WU5214, but it is identical for the WU5202 also):
http://www.qsicorp.com/engfiles/Support ... WU5205.zip
http://www.qsicorp.com/engfiles/Support ... WU5205.zip

Also, TREQ-DX
http://www.qsicorp.com/engfiles/Support ... WU5205.zip

The package simply adds a few registry entries and a dll file to \HardDisk\bin. Unfortunately if the older WiFi driver dll is present then it will conflict with the new driver. (you will receive an "unknown usb device" pop-up) For this purpose a batch file (togglewifi.bat) is included with these packages. Running this batch file will allow you to switch between the old WiFi driver and the new driver. (each requires a reboot)

On a treq-L with build 1.10, we get "unidentified USB device" even after installing the treq-l zip file you provided. Do we need to be on some other build level?

I looked at the "mfp" and found these entries...
; ------------- REGISTRY SETTINGS --------------
?[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Drivers\BuiltIn\PCI\Template\ehci]
?"IntThreshCtrl"=dword:1
?[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Drivers\BuiltIn\PCI\Template]
?[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Drivers\BuiltIn\PCI]
?[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Drivers\BuiltIn]
?[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Drivers]
?[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\RT28701\Parms\TcpIp]
?"AutoCfg"=dword:1
?"DNS"="192.168.1.5"
?"DefaultGateway"=multi_sz:"192.168.2.254"
?"EnableDHCP"=dword:1
?"IpAddress"=multi_sz:"192.168.2.234"
?"Subnetmask"=multi_sz:"255.255.255.0"
?"WINS"="192.168.1.5"

We are very concerned about 3 entries...

?"DefaultGateway"=multi_sz:"192.168.2.254"
?"IpAddress"=multi_sz:"192.168.2.234"
?"Subnetmask"=multi_sz:"255.255.255.0"
?"WINS"="192.168.1.5"

Why would you "force" certain IP addresses in there? What if we use DHCP?

I found a way!

After installing, you must execute "togglewifi.bat" that is located in the \harddisk\bin folder (subsequent to the successful installation). Then, you must reboot. After reboot, go to Network and Dial-up connections and once there, eliminate the IP address that was added by the two (flawed) entries in the mfp:
?"DefaultGateway"=multi_sz:"192.168.2.254"
?"IpAddress"=multi_sz:"192.168.2.234"

Then, you need to add your WEP key (if any) for the (non)broadcast ssid in question.

Whew!

Will QSI be revising the mfp to eliminate the two entries in question?

When we load the new drivers, the TREQ-L then supports the newer Xterasys WIFI antennas but drops support for the older ones. The "togglewifi.bat" file supports "alternating" between supporting the old or the new. Is there any plan to put a driver set together that supports BOTH USB WIFI antennas, rather than either/or?
