I would like to set up an automated method to download a BFF to a G55.
How can I do this without using Qlarity?

If your G55 has Ethernet support, you can use the TFTP protocol to download to a G55 that is waiting for an application. Both Windows and most Linux distributions have TFTP support built in (type tftp from the command line), or you can use any compliant TFTP communication package.

If you are using the serial port for downloads, it is even easier. Once your G55 is waiting for an application, simply stream the bytes of the file out the serial port. If you are curious if the G55 is waiting for an application, send a "Q;" out the serial port (omit the quotes) and it should respond.

You can use the Qlarity code line
Code:
SoftReset(RESET_LOADAPP)

to prepare the G55 for loading an application.
