I am having trouble setting up my Basic Serial object to correctly read the barcode wand I have connected to the com port. I am using the sample workspace "basic serial communication.qly as an example which works correctly and displays the scanned barcode. But when I use the workspace I created I recieve the the following in my Recieve Screen "RecvView.value + _StrToCharstr(data)" instead of the barcode number that I swiped.
"RecvView.value + _StrToCharstr(data)" is what I have put under the Data Recieved Events Tab under Use this Explicit Value. Like in the example that works.

I need any help anyone can give me I am a lousy programer but I need to learn one way or another.

Thanks

It sounds like you have code such as:
RecvView.value = "RecvView.value + _StrToCharstr(data)"

when really want you want is something like
RecvView.value = RecvView.value + data

You'll want to make these changes in Code View instead of in the event builder.

Thank you Ron that did the trick, But why did it have to be done in the code view instead of event builder ?

I was afraid the event builder might be throwing quotations around your code. If your trying to do anything more than copying one value/property to another value/property then you probably will want to use code view, as the event builder is limited in it's code creation abilities.
