Hi,

We just purchased our first two G58 units with WindowsCE, and I am trying to communicate with the G58 unit and my PC, but I am unable to do so.

When I connect the G58 to the PC with the USB programming cable, a driver loads and a USB device is recognized as a "Generic Serial (PROTOTYPE..." in the Windows PC. However the Windows Mobile Device Center is not able to connect to the device and the mass storage device is not accessible (visible) in Windows Explorer.

In the G58 unit, I can go to START->SETTINGS->NETWORK & DIAL-UP CONNECTIONS->USB DEVICE and connect to the host, and it will successfully connect to the host, but I still have no connectivity from the Windows PC.

As a final note, I followed these steps and was able to communicate and have access to the mass storage device on the G58 demo unit, I am not sure what can be different between the G58 demo and a purchased unit that would prevent me from communicating with it (I need to be able to copy a file to the "HardDisk" on the G58 from the Windows PC, so that I can download application files via the Wireless link on the G58).

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,

Bruno

Well, I actually figured out what was missing.

For those that may be interested:

I had to go to Control Panel --> PC Connection and check the "Enable Direct Connection to the Desktop Computer" box. Once this was done, and I connected the G58 to the PC with the USB cable. The device was recognized and connected to by Windows Mobile Device Center and the mass storage device on the G58 was available on Windows Explorer to copy file to from the PC.

:D
